Troopers Investigate Fatal Hit and Run Crash in Lacombe

Lacombe, LA- Yesterday evening at 08:30 pm, Troopers from Louisiana State Police Troop L began investigating a fatal hit and run crash involving a bicyclist on LA 434/Lake Road in St. Tammany Parish. The crash occurred approximately one mile south of U.S. 190 and took the life of 20 year old Darnell Davis of Lacombe, LA.

Troopers’ investigation revealed that Davis was traveling north on LA 434 riding his bicycle near the east fog line of the roadway when, for unknown reasons, a 1990 Mazda 626 approached from the rear and struck the bicycle with its right front corner. After impact, Davis was ejected from the bicycle and came to rest across the northbound lane of LA 434.

Davis was not wearing a helmet at the time of the crash and was pronounced dead at the scene by the St. Tammany Parish Coroner’s Office. Alcohol and/or drug impairment is unknown at this time pending toxicology results at the coroner’s office.

Upon impacting the bicycle, the Mazda fled northbound and was later discovered by Troopers in a parking lot near the intersection of LA 434 and U.S. 190. Troopers are continuing their investigation into the events of the crash and efforts to identify the driver are ongoing. Crime scene technicians from the Louisiana State Police Crime Lab are actively collecting evidence from the suspect vehicle and anyone with information regarding the crash is urged to contact Troop L at 985-893-6250.
