| LOUISIANA STATE POLICE COURTESY LOYALTY SERVICE Colonel Michael D. Edmonson, Superintendent TROOP L NEWS RELEASE For Immediate Release July 7th, 2011 Troopers seek Witnesses to Covington Fatal Crash Covington, LA – Today shortly before noon, Louisiana State Police Troop L investigated a single vehicle fatal crash on U.S. 190 directly underneath Interstate 12 in St. Tammany Parish. The crash occurred as a 2004 Toyota SUV was traveling south on U.S. 190 when, for unknown reasons, it ran off road to the right and impacted a support column for the Interstate 12 eastbound overpass. The driver of the SUV, Kevin Cole (W/M age 57) of Mandeville, LA, sustained fatal injuries in the crash and was pronounced dead at the scene by the St. Tammany Parish Coroner’s Office. Cole was wearing a seatbelt at the time of the crash and impairment is not suspected with the results of a toxicology test pending at the coroner’s office. Troopers are continuing their investigation into the crash and urge anyone with more information to contact Troop L at 985-893-6250. While the cause of the crash remains under investigation, troopers urge the public to remain vigilant while driving and avoid distracting activities, especially the temptations of electronic devices that can substantially divert a driver’s attention away from the road. Motor vehicle crashes are unexpected events, however, by taking precautionary steps including always wearing a seatbelt and never driving while distracted, motorists can substantially reduce their risk of being involved and/or injured in a crash. To report dangerous drivers or other hazardous road conditions, citizens may dial *LSP (*577) from your cellular phone to reach the State Police office closest to you.
