Troopers investigate Fatal Crash in Hammond

Hammond, LA – Today at 10:25 am, Louisiana State Police Troop L investigated a two vehicle triple fatality crash on U.S. 190 at its intersection with N. Coburn Road in Tangipahoa Parish.

Preliminary investigation revealed that the crash occurred as a 2003 Oldsmobile Alero, driven by Sarah Robertson (W/F age 26) of Independence, LA, was traveling south on North Coburn Road approaching its intersection with U.S. 190. Upon reaching the intersection, the Oldsmobile failed to yield for the stop sign and proceeded across the westbound lane of U.S. 190 directly into the path of a westbound Ford F-250 pickup truck. As the Oldsmobile entered the intersection, it was impacted on its left side by the front end of the Ford F-250.

Both Robertson and left rear passenger, Skyler Ciccio (W/F age 5), were transported to Northoaks Medical Center where they were pronounced dead as a result of injuries sustained in the crash. Center rear seat passenger, Mandy Dennis (W/F age 12) of Kentwood, LA, was transported to East Jefferson General Hospital where she was later pronounced dead. Front passenger in the Oldsmobile, Travis Tackett (W/M age 20) of Kentwood, LA, and a 4 year old right rear passenger were both transported to Northoaks Medical Center with moderate injuries. All passengers in the Oldsmobile were properly restrained in seatbelts and child safety seats at the time of the crash. Alcohol and/or drug impairment is unknown at this time pending the results of a toxicology exam.

The driver of the Ford F-250, Alan Grice (W/M age 26) of Independence, LA, was wearing a seatbelt and received no injuries in the crash. He submitted to a breath alcohol test showing no detectable signs of alcohol in his system.

While the cause of the crash remains under investigation, troopers urge the public to remain vigilant while driving and avoid distracting activities, especially the temptations of electronic devices that can substantially divert a driver’s attention away from the road. Motor vehicle crashes are unexpected events, however, by taking precautionary steps including never driving while distracted or impaired, motorists can substantially reduce their risk of being involved and/or injured in a crash.
