Early Morning Crash takes life of Mandeville Man

Mandeville, LA – This morning at 02:35 am, Louisiana State Police Troop L investigated a one vehicle fatality crash on LA 59 at the intersection of LA 1088 in St. Tammany Parish.

Preliminary investigation revealed that the crash occurred as Kyle Borges, (W/M age 23) of Mandeville, LA, was driving a 2011 Ford Focus north on LA 59. As Borges approached the intersection of LA 1088, he failed to maneuver a left curve and ran off road to the right entering the ditch on the east side of LA 59. Upon entering the ditch, the Focus impacted the dirt embankment at the intersection causing the vehicle to flip and come to rest across the eastbound lane of LA 1088.

Borges, who was unrestrained at the time of the crash, was ejected from the vehicle and transported to Lakeview Regional Medical Center where he was pronounced dead as a result of his injuries. Alcohol and/or drug impairment is unknown at this time with the results of a toxicology exam pending at the St. Tammany Parish Coroner’s Office.

In 2010, approximately 59% of the fatalities experienced on Louisiana highways were unrestrained at the time of the crash. While not all crashes are survivable, seat belts can greatly decrease the occupant’s chance of death and may greatly reduce the extent of injury. Louisiana law requires every vehicle occupant, front seat and back seat, to be properly restrained day or night. Taking the time to buckle up every trip and every time is the single most effective thing you can do to protect yourself in a crash.
