Doctor Shopping Investigation leads to Arrest of Folsom Resident

Louisiana State Police Narcotic Detectives have charged a Folsom woman with 95 counts of fraudulently obtaining a controlled dangerous substance following an investigation into alleged “Doctor Shopping”.

Troopers’ investigation revealed that Sandra Graham (W/F age 54) visited numerous medical offices seeking the same prescription from multiple physicians. Over an 11 month period, Graham visited 47 doctors and 29 different pharmacies throughout the Covington, Mandeville, Hammond, Amite, and Metairie areas where she received and filled multiple prescriptions for Hydrocodone, Lorazepam, Clonazepam, and Temazepam.

On May 25th, 2011, Graham was arrested without incident at her residence and booked into the St. Tammany Parish Jail with 95 counts of “Doctor Shopping” and 2 counts of prescription fraud. Graham faces additional charges in Tangipahoa and Jefferson Parish upon release from St. Tammany.

LA Revised Statute 40:971B(1)(i), often referred to as “Doctor Shopping”, makes it illegal for individuals to obtain or seek to obtain any controlled dangerous substance or a prescription for a controlled dangerous substance from multiple health care practitioners without disclosing the existing prescription.
