Florida Man charged in Stolen Vehicle Investigation

A multi-jurisdictional investigation came to conclusion this past week as troopers assigned to the Louisiana State Police Auto Theft Unit took custody of Manuel Irizarry, (H/M age 39) of Saint Cloud, FL, on 13 counts of Possession of Stolen Property.

The investigation began in March of 2011 when Auto Theft detectives were contacted by the Orange County, Florida Sheriff’s Office in reference to an ongoing investigation involving over a dozen stolen vehicles. Through a cooperative investigation between LSP detectives, the Orange County Sheriff’s Office, St. Tammany Parish Sheriff’s Office, and the National Insurance Crime Bureau, investigators identified Irizarry as the primary suspect in possession of the stolen vehicles. Further investigation revealed that Irizarry transported the vehicles to Louisiana through his trucking business and was allowing employees of Patco Transport, a Pearl River based trucking company, to use the stolen vehicles while working in the area.

On April 13th and 14th, the multi-agency task force executed search warrants at Patco Transport and a residence in Belle Chase, Louisiana recovering a total of 13 stolen vehicles valued at over $260,000. As a result of the search, detectives obtained arrest warrants for Irizarry in both St. Tammany and Plaquemines Parish for Possession of Stolen Property.

On July 20th, 2011, Irizarry was apprehended by the Orange County Sheriff’s Office and booked as a fugitive from Louisiana. Irizarry was then extradited back to St. Tammany Parish on August 9th, 2011 and booked without incident on the above charges.

Anyone wishing to report criminal or suspicious activity to the Louisiana State Police Bureau of Investigations is urged to contact detectives at 225-925-3682.

The Louisiana State Police on-line reporting system is also available to the public through a convenient and secure reporting form that is submitted to the appropriate investigators. Citizens can access the form by visiting www.lsp.org and clicking the Suspicious Activity link.
