Teen Driver succumbs to Injuries following Weekend Crash

Natalbany, LA – On Saturday, December 3rd, 2011 at approximately 1:40 pm, Louisiana State Police Troop L investigated a two vehicle serious injury crash at the intersection of LA 1064 and Rufus Bankston Road in Tangipahoa Parish.

Preliminary investigation revealed that the crash occurred as a 1992 Chevrolet Caprice, driven by Dalvin Holden (B/M age 15) of Tickfaw, LA, was traveling north on Rufus Bankston Road south of LA 1064. For unknown reasons, Holden proceeded to aggressively accelerate his vehicle while on Rufus Bankston Road, spinning his tires and losing control of the Chevrolet. During the acceleration, the Chevrolet Caprice proceeded through the stop sign at the intersection with LA 1064 entering directly into the path of an oncoming 2006 Dodge pickup truck. Upon entering the intersection, the Chevrolet was impacted on its left side by the front end of the eastbound Dodge pickup.

The driver of the Dodge pickup truck, William Harris (W/M age 21) of Columbia, MS, was wearing a seatbelt at the time of the crash and received no injuries. He submitted to a breath alcohol test showing no detectable signs of alcohol in his system.

Holden was wearing a seatbelt at the time of the crash and was airlifted to University Hospital in New Orleans in serious condition. During the evening hours of December 4th, Holden succumbed to his injuries and was pronounced dead by hospital staff. Due to the severity of his injuries, alcohol and/or drug use is unknown pending the results of toxicology exam at the Louisiana State Police Crime Lab.

While the crash remains under investigation, troopers urge the public to remain vigilant while driving and refrain from hazardous activities such as aggressive, impaired, and/or distracted driving. Making poor decisions in a vehicle leads to serious injuries and deaths every day across the state. Making the responsible decision can mean the difference between life and death. 100% of motor vehicle crashes are preventable and Louisiana State Police would like to remind the public to drive safely and exercise extra patience on the roads this holiday season.
Motorists that witness hazardous situations are urged to call *LSP (*577) and report that activity to the Louisiana State Police.
