| TROOP L NEWS RELEASE December 9th, 2011 Driver killed in Crash on LA 445 Tangipahoa Parish, LA – Yesterday at 5:20 pm, Louisiana State Police Troop L investigated a two vehicle fatal crash on LA 445 approximately one mile north of LA 22 in Tangipahoa Parish. Troopers’ investigation revealed that the crash occurred as a 2009 Chevrolet Cobalt was traveling north on LA 445 when, for unknown reasons, the vehicle began to drift off road to the right. As the right side tires of the Chevrolet left the paved roadway, its driver overcorrected back to the left causing the vehicle to rotate counterclockwise and cross into the southbound lane of LA 445. Upon entering into oncoming southbound traffic, the Chevrolet impacted a 2009 Honda Fit, driven by 76 year old Janis Sheridan, with its right side. Sheridan and a juvenile passenger in the Honda, both from Ponchatoula, LA, were transported to North Oaks Medical Center with minor injuries. The driver of the Chevrolet Cobalt was transported to North Oaks Medical Center in serious condition where he later died as a result of his injuries. Death notification is still pending to the driver’s next of kin. Upon notification his name and information will be released. Both drivers and passenger were properly restrained at the time of the crash and impairment is not suspected with toxicology results pending at the Louisiana State Police Crime Lab. Motor vehicle crashes are unexpected events, however are 100% preventable. By taking precautionary steps including never driving while impaired, distracted, or fatigued, motorists can substantially reduce their risk of being involved and/or injured in a crash. Louisiana State Police would like to remind the public to drive safely and exercise extra patience on the roads this holiday season.
