| TROOP L NEWS RELEASE For Immediate Release September 16th, 2011 Troopers investigate Head-on Crash in Covington Covington, LA – This morning at 6:50 am, troopers from Louisiana State Police Troop L investigated a two vehicle fatal crash on LA 25 approximately 3 miles north of U.S. 190 in St. Tammany Parish. Preliminary investigation revealed that the crash occurred as a 2005 Toyota van was traveling north on LA 25 when, for unknown reasons, it crossed the centerline of the roadway entering into the southbound lane. As the Toyota crossed into oncoming traffic, it impacted a 2006 Buick SUV in a head-on collision. Driver of the Toyota, Hazel Fields (B/F age 33) of Angie, LA, was unrestrained at the time of the crash and was pronounced dead at the scene by the St. Tammany Parish Coroner’s office. The driver of the Buick SUV, Gloria Fabre (B/F age 68) of Folsom, LA, was wearing a seatbelt and was transported to St. Tammany Parish Hospital with minor injuries. Impairment is not suspected with toxicology tests pending at the Louisiana State Police Crime Lab. In both fatal crashes investigated by Troop L in the past two days, lack of seatbelt use has been the common deadly decision made by both drivers. Making poor decisions in a vehicle such as driving impaired, driving while distracted, or not wearing a seat belt leads to serious injuries and deaths every day across the state. Making the responsible decision can mean the difference between life and death. Contact Information: | |||
