| TROOP L NEWS RELEASE For Immediate Release September 17th, 2011 Walker Resident succumbs to Injuries following I-55 Crash Kentwood, LA – Yesterday evening at 8:50 pm, Louisiana State Police Troop L investigated a fatality crash involving a pedestrian on Interstate 55 approximately 1 mile south of Kentwood in Tangipahoa Parish. Troopers’ investigation at the scene revealed that prior to the crash, Joseph Nadeau (W/M age 73) of Walker, LA, was stopped on the southbound shoulder of I-55 in his 1993 Toyota pickup truck. For unknown reasons, Nadeau exited his vehicle and stepped into the southbound lane of the interstate where he was impacted by a 2011 Chevrolet SUV driven by Judy Thompson (W/F age 40) of Brandon, MS. Nadeau was airlifted from the scene and transported to University Hospital in New Orleans where he later died as a result of his injuries. Thompson was wearing a seatbelt and received no injuries in the crash. Alcohol use is not suspected to be a factor for either driver. While the crash remains under investigation, troopers urge motorists to remain vigilant while driving, pay close attention to the roadway ahead, and exercise extreme caution should your vehicle become disabled along the shoulder. Stopping on the shoulder of the interstate should be an unavoidable and emergency only option. In the event your vehicle becomes disabled in the roadway, you should move it out of the travel lane as quickly as possible and warn oncoming traffic by utilizing the vehicle’s hazard lights, flares, or other warning devices. When safe to do so, occupants should exit the vehicle mindful of surrounding traffic and stand in a safe place off the roadway. Motorists approaching a disabled vehicle, should whenever possible move to the farthest lane away or slow to a reasonable speed if unable to change lanes. Contact Information: | |||
