| TROOP L NEWS RELEASE September 23rd, 2011 National Seat Check Saturday Event scheduled for Hammond As part of Child Passenger Safety Week, nationally certified technicians from across the Troop L region will participate in a free child passenger safety seat check up event this Saturday, September 24th, 2011. The event will be held at the Regina Coeli Child Development Center located at 22476 Hwy. 190 in Robert, LA from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. At the event, certified technicians will be on hand to conduct seat inspections ensuring proper installation of each child’s safety seat. In addition, parents and caregivers will be provided with life-saving information regarding the appropriate seat for each child’s age, weight, and height. There is no cost for the child seat installations/inspections, however parents should anticipate approximately 30 minutes of inspection time per seat. Child safety seats including booster seats offer the best protection for children in the event of a crash. When properly installed and used, child seats can reduce the risk of fatal injury by 71 percent for children younger than one and by 54 percent for children between 1 and 4 years old. With an estimated misuse rate of 3 out of 4 seats, parents and caregivers are urged to take advantage of events such as the National Child Seat Check Saturday to have child restraints in their vehicle checked free of charge. In addition to Saturday’s event, Louisiana State Police Troop L serves as a grant-funded Child Passenger Safety fitting station every Wednesday from 3:00 pm until 6:00 pm (excluding holidays). Certified Child Passenger Safety Technicians are available to inspect and to assist with installation of child safety seats at that time. In addition, CPS Technicians are available upon request to perform inspections at daycare centers, schools, and various community events. There are also programs available to those individuals who may not be able to afford a child safety seat.
