Edmonson, Superintendent TROOP A- NEWS RELEASE Vehicle Strikes Utility Pole, Driver Pronounced Dead At 1:19 AM, on Monday, June 23, 2008, Louisiana State Police – Troop A began investigating a one-vehicle fatality. The crash occurred on LA Hwy 44 east of LA Hwy 3213 in St. James Parish. An Acura TL traveled east on LA Hwy 44 and exited the roadway to the left. After leaving the roadway, the Acura struck a utility pole, began rotating to the right and struck a second utility pole. The driver of the Acura, Gary Belvin (Male/Age 41) of Mount Airy, LA, sustained fatal injuries and was pronounced dead at the scene by the St. James Parish Coroner’s Office. The passenger, Joseph Sanders (Male/Age 28) of Mount Airy, LA, sustained moderate injuries and was transported to River Parishes Hospital.
