Franklinton Residents killed in Head-on Collision

Washington Parish – Yesterday at 10:00 pm, Louisiana State Police Troop L investigated a two vehicle fatal crash on LA 10 at milepost #239.8 approximately 6 miles west of Bogalusa in Washington Parish.

A 2001 Ford Expedition, driven by Kevin Larsen (W/M age 29) of Franklinton, LA, was traveling eastbound on LA 10. A 2001 Ford pickup truck, driven by James O’Bryant (W/M age 31) of Franklinton, LA, was traveling westbound on LA 10. Upon approaching four eastbound vehicles ahead of it, the driver of the Ford Expedition attempted to pass all four vehicles and crossed the center line of LA 10 in a no passing zone. As the Expedition passed the fourth vehicle, it came upon the westbound Ford pickup truck, resulting in a head-on collision. After impact, the Ford pickup truck came to rest in the westbound ditch and caught fire.

Larsen was not wearing his seat belt at the time of the crash and was transported to LSU Medical Center in Bogalusa where he was pronounced dead due to injuries sustained in the crash. Alcohol use is unknown at this time with toxicology results pending at the Louisiana State Police Crime Lab.

Passenger one in the Expedition, Toby Manning (W/M age 23) of Franklinton, LA, was not wearing a seatbelt and was transported to Riverside Medical Center with moderate injuries.

Passenger two in the Expedition, a three year old juvenile, was properly secured in a child restraint and was transported to University Hospital in New Orleans in serious condition.

O’Bryant was pronounced dead at the scene by the Washington Parish Coroner’s Office due to injuries sustained in the crash. Seatbelt use is unknown due to the vehicle fire and a toxicology test is pending at the Louisiana State Police Crime Lab.
