Edmonson, Superintendent TROOP L- NEWS RELEASE For Immediate Release Date: September 27, 2008 Passenger Killed in Crash on Interstate 10 in St. Tammany Parish Today at 5:38 AM, Louisiana State Police Troop L investigated a two-vehicle crash that resulted in one death. The crash occurred on Interstate 10 at milepost 262.0 in St. Tammany Parish. A 1995 Nissan pickup, driven by Francisco Aguilar (O/M/Age 19) was traveling east on Interstate 10. A 1994 Nissan Van red in color, driven by an unknown subject was traveling eastbound on Interstate 10 in the center lane ahead of the Nissan pickup. The Nissan pickup was traveling at a high rate of speed. The pickup came up from behind and struck the right rear of the van with its left front. The pickup was traveling upon the dashed line between the center and right lane at the time of impact. After impact, the Nissan van continued forward, pulling onto the right shoulder and stopped. The Nissan pickup veered to the right, traveling approximately 100 feet and began to rotate to the left. While rotating the pickup overturned onto its right side and continued to flip as it traveled into the median. During this time, the passenger was ejected from the vehicle and then the vehicle impacted the passenger. At some point during the crash, the driver of the Nissan van fled the scene of the crash, but left the vehicle on scene. The driver of the 1994 Nissan Van, red in color, fled the scene of the crash. If anyone has information to the identity of the driver involved in this crash, please call the Louisiana State Police Troop L at (985) 893-6250. The driver of the Nissan pickup, Francisco Aguilar was transported to Northshore Hospital by Acadian Ambulance to receive medical treatment for moderate injuries. Alcohol usage is suspected in the crash; blood was obtained and will be submitted to the Louisiana State Police Crime Lab for analysis. Once released from the hospital, Francisco Aguilar will be charged and booked into the St. Tammany Parish Jail on the following charges, Careless Operation (R.S.32:58), No Driver’s License (R.S.32:52), Operating A Vehicle While Intoxicated (R.S.14:98), Illegal Alien Operating a Motor Vehicle (R.S.14:100.13), First Degree Vehicular Negligent Injuring (R.S.14:39.2) and Vehicular Homicide (R.S.14:32.1). Passenger one, Candelario Olvera (O/M/Age 36) was transported to Northshore Hospital by Acadian Ambulance to receive medical treatment for moderate injuries. Passenger two was pronounced dead at the scene by Angel Galloway of the St. Tammany Parish Coroner’s Office, due to injuries sustained in the crash. No seat belts were worn by occupants in the vehicle. **Upon making notification to the family of the deceased, we will then release the identity of the passenger killed in the crash.
