Edmonson, Superintendent TROOP L- NEWS RELEASE For Immediate Release Date: October 19, 2008 Three Killed in Crash on Interstate 10 in St. Tammany Parish Today at 11:25 AM, Louisiana State Police Troop L investigated a two-vehicle crash that resulted in three deaths. The crash occurred on Interstate 10 at milepost 272.5 in St. Tammany Parish. A 2004 Jeep, driven by Sharon R. Braud (W/F/Age 60) of Meraux, LA, was traveling east on Interstate 10 on the right lane. A 1999 Dodge pickup, driven by Thomas McKenzie (W/M/Age 65) of Arabi, LA, was traveling west in the right lane of Interstate 10 westbound. Sharon Braud lost control of the Jeep, traveled across all lanes of Interstate 10 eastbound and into and through the median. The Jeep traveled out of the median, onto the westbound lanes of travel and into the path of the Dodge pickup. The Jeep struck the front end of the Dodge with its passenger door and front fender. After impact, the Jeep rotated counterclockwise and came to final rest off the north side of the roadway. The Dodge pickup traveled off the north side of Interstate 10 and overturned before coming to final rest upright in the westbound ditch. The driver of the Dodge pickup, Thomas McKenzie was transported to Northshore Hospital by Acadian Ambulance to receive medical treatment for moderate injuries. Alcohol usage is not suspected in the crash; blood was obtained and will be submitted for analysis. The driver was wearing his seat belt at the time of the crash. Nick Culotta of the St. Tammany Parish Coroner’s Office, due to injuries sustained in the crash, pronounced the driver of the Jeep, Sharon R. Braud, of Meraux, LA, dead at the scene of the crash. Alcohol usage is not suspected in the crash; blood was obtained and will be submitted for analysis. Passenger one, Anne Diaz (W/F/Age 91) of Violet, LA, was pronounced dead at the scene by Nick Culotta of the St. Tammany Parish Coroner’s Office, due to injuries sustained in the crash. Passenger two, Eugenia L. Fisher (W/F/Age 83) of St. Bernard, LA, was transported to Slidell Memorial Hospital by Acadian Ambulance to receive medical treatment for severe injuries. Once at Slidell Memorial Hospital, Eugenia L. Fisher was pronounced dead by Dr. Kumar, due to injuries sustained in the crash. Occupants in the vehicle wore no seat belts at the time of the crash.
