Mandeville Resident Killed in Crash on Interstate 12 in St. Tammany Parish

Today, October 19, 2008 at 5:00 AM, Louisiana State Police Troop L investigated a one-vehicle crash that resulted in the death of a Mandeville resident. The crash occurred on Interstate 12 at milepost 66.5 in St. Tammany Parish.

A 1999 Volvo V70, driven by Vincent A. Oddo (W/M/Age 28) of Mandeville, LA, was traveling on the right lane of Interstate 12 westbound. For unknown reasons, Vincent Oddo lost control of his Volvo and entered the left lane of travel. The vehicles left side tires traveled onto the narrow paved shoulder, the driver then overcorrected to the right. The Volvo began to rotate clockwise as it crossed both lanes of Interstate 12 westbound and then ran off the north side of the roadway. The vehicle entered the westbound ditch and tree line where it struck several trees with its driver’s side. After impact, the Volvo overturned and came to rest upside down in the westbound ditch.

Dr. Greg Benton of Lakeview Hospital, due to injuries sustained in the crash, pronounced the driver of the Volvo V70, Vincent A. Oddo, of Mandeville, LA, dead at the scene of the crash. Alcohol/Drug involvement is unknown at this time; blood was obtained and will be sent out for analysis. The driver was wearing a seat belt at the time of the crash. Passenger one, Mary E. Snyder (W/F/Age 22) of Pearl River, LA, was transported to Lakeview Hospital by Fire District #4 to receive medical treatment for moderate injuries. Passenger two, Scott J. David (W/M/Age 21) of Lacombe, LA, was transported to Lakeview Hospital by Fire District #4 to receive medical treatment for moderate injuries.
