Edmonson, Superintendent TROOP L- NEWS RELEASE For Immediate Release Date: October 22, 2008 Independence Resident Killed in Crash on Interstate 12 in Tangipahoa Parish Today at 10:23 AM, Louisiana State Police, Troop-L investigated a one-vehicle crash on Interstate 12 at milepost 44.6 in Tangipahoa Parish. A 1999 Nissan Altima, driven by Luis M. Rocha (W/M/Age 34) of Independence, LA, was traveling west on Interstate 12 in the right lane. The Nissan Altima for an unknown reason traveled off the roadway to the right. The Nissan continued to travel west off the roadway for approximately 460 feet, before impacting several trees. The driver of the Nissan Altima, Luis M. Rocha of Independence, LA, was pronounced dead at the scene by Bruce Ostetter of the Tangipahoa Parish Coroner’s Office, due to injuries sustained in the crash. The driver was wearing his seat belt at the time of the crash. No alcohol/drugs suspected in the crash, however, blood was obtained and will be submitted for analysis.
