Edmonson, Superintendent TROOP L- NEWS RELEASE For Immediate Release Date: September 26, 2008 Mandeville Resident Killed in Crash on LA 1083 in St. Tammany Parish Today at 3:40 PM, Louisiana State Police Troop L investigated a three-vehicle crash that resulted in the death of a Mandeville resident. The crash occurred on LA 1083 at milepost 4.3 in St. Tammany Parish. A 1986 Ford Ranger, driven by Charles Westmoreland (W/M/Age 48) of Bogalusa, LA, was traveling north on LA 1083 approximately seven tenths of a mile south of LA 21. A 2007 Harley Davidson motorcycle, driven by Don Audibert (W/M/Age 58) of Mandeville, LA was traveling southbound on LA 1083. A 1992 Harley Davidson motorcycle, driven by Heath Munch (W/M/Age 36) of Madisonville, LA was also traveling southbound on LA 1083 slightly behind the 2007 Harley Davidson. The Ford Ranger crossed over the centerline and onto the southbound lane of travel directly into the path of the two motorcycles. The driver of the 2007 Harley Davidson applied the brakes and began to skid, overturning onto its side. The 2007 Harley Davidson struck the front center and front right of the Ford Ranger in the southbound lane. The 1992 Harley Davidson then impacted the rear of the 2007 Harley Davidson. Because of both impacts, both riders were ejected from their motorcycles. The driver of the 1992 Harley Davidson, Heath Munch of Madisonville, LA, was transported to St. Tammany Hospital by Acadian Ambulance to receive medical treatment for moderate injuries. Alcohol/Drugs are not suspected in the crash, however, blood results are pending. The driver was wearing a non-DOT approved helmet at the time of the crash. The driver of the 2007 Harley Davidson, Don Audibert of Mandeville, LA, was pronounced dead at the scene by Angel Galloway of the St. Tammany Parish Coroner’s Office, due to injuries sustained in the crash. Alcohol/Drugs are not suspected in the crash, however, blood results are pending. The driver was wearing a non-DOT approved helmet at the time of the crash. The driver of the Ford Ranger, Charles Westmoreland of Bogalusa, LA, was transported to St. Tammany Hospital by Acadian Ambulance to receive medical treatment for moderate injuries. Drug usage is suspected in the crash; blood was obtained and will be submitted to the Louisiana State Police Crime Lab for analysis. Once released from the hospital, Charles Westmoreland will be charged and booked into the St. Tammany Parish Jail on the following charges, Driving Left of Center (R.S.32:71), Expired Inspection Sticker (R.S.32:1304.E), No Seat Belt (R.S.32:295.1), Expired Drivers License (R.S.32:412), Possession Distribution Manufacture of Schedule II Drugs (Hydrocodone) (R.S.40:967), Operating A Vehicle While Intoxicated (R.S.14:98) second offense, Vehicular Negligent Injuring (R.S.14:39.2) and Vehicular Homicide (R.S.14:32.1).
