Edmonson, Superintendent TROOP L- NEWS RELEASE For Immediate Release Date: August 5, 2008 Covington Resident Killed in St. Tammany Parish Crash Today at 2:40 PM, Louisiana State Police, Troop-L investigated a two-vehicle crash on LA 25 at the intersection of River Road, at milepost 2.0 in St. Tammany Parish. A 2006 GMC pickup, driven by William J. Guarino (W/M/Age 79) of Covington, LA, was traveling west on River Road. A 2007 Freightliner, driven by Michael Gordon (B/M/Age 49) of Kenner, LA, was traveling northbound on LA 25. As the GMC approached the intersection of River Road and LA 25, the driver failed to yield to the Freightliner while turning to proceed south on LA 25. The Freightliner was unable to avoid striking the GMC pickup in the driver’s door. After the impact, both vehicles came to final rest in the ditch off the west side of the roadway. The driver of the Freightliner, Michael Gordon of Kenner, LA, was transported to St. Tammany Hospital by Acadian Ambulance to receive medical treatment for moderate injuries. Alcohol usage is not suspected in the crash; blood was obtained and shall be submitted to the Louisiana State Police Crime Lab for analysis. The driver was wearing his seat belt at the time of the crash. The driver of the GMC pickup, William J. Guarino of Covington, LA, was pronounced dead at the scene by St. Tammany Parish Coroner Investigator Angel Galloway, due to injuries sustained in the crash. Alcohol usage is not suspected in the crash; blood was obtained and shall be submitted to the Louisiana State Police Crime Lab for analysis.
