Edmonson, Superintendent TROOP L- NEWS RELEASE For Immediate Release Date: August 19, 2008 Slidell Resident Killed in Fatal Crash on Interstate 12 Today, August 19, 2008 at 7:47 AM, Louisiana State Police, Troop L investigated a two vehicle fatal crash on Interstate 12 at milepost 72.0. A 2002 Mazda four door, driven by Kelly Morris (W/F/Age 30) of Slidell, LA, was traveling west in the left lane of Interstate 12. For unknown reasons, the Mazda veered to the left and its left side tires exited the roadway and onto a dirt shoulder. The driver then abruptly steered the Mazda to the right, the vehicle entered the right lane and struck a 2008 Nissan Altima. The 2008 Nissan Altima was driven by Stephen Craver (W/M/Age 36) of Slidell, LA. After impact, both vehicles traveled off the roadway to the right. The Mazda impacted two pine trees with its driver’s side door, the vehicle then impacted a third tree with its rear bumper. The driver of the 2008 Nissan Altima, Stephen Craver of Slidell, LA, was not injured in the crash. Stephen Craver submitted to a chemical breath test, which indicated .000g% BAC. The driver of the vehicle was wearing his seat belt at the time of the crash. The driver of the 2002 Mazda four door, Kelly Morris of Slidell, LA, was transported to the Louisiana Heart Hospital to receive medical treatment for severe injuries. Once at the Louisiana Heart Hospital, Kelly Morris was pronounced dead by Dr. Andry, due to injuries sustained in the crash. Alcohol/Drugs usage is not suspected; blood was obtained and will be submitted to the Louisiana State Police Crime Lab for analysis. The driver was wearing her seat belt at the time of the crash.
