Louisiana State Police Prepares for Hurricane Gustav

As of 8:00 AM, on Thursday, August 28, 2008, Louisiana State Police activated the State Emergency Operation Center (EOC) to monitor the progress of Hurricane Gustav and to provide the residents across the state with accurate information.

In support of the EOC, State Police Troop L is staffing a twenty-four hour forward command post. Troopers, local sheriff’s departments, and local police departments are monitoring the flow of traffic, assisting stranded motorists, and removing abandoned vehicles from the shoulders of the road along evacuation routes.

The public is encouraged to call the LSP Hotline at 1-800-469-4828 for up to date evacuation and road closure information. Residents that are planning their evacuation routes are encouraged to check the (www.getagameplan.org) website and the Louisiana State Police website (www.lsp.org) for detailed evacuation maps, contact numbers for agencies needed in an emergency, a list of emergency shelter points, and information necessary to create a family disaster supply kit. If you live outside of the area, being evacuated State Police requests that you monitor local television, radio, and the State Police website for current information. In an effort to maintain the flow of traffic along the evacuation routes, local traffic is encouraged to use surface streets for intercity travel.
