Madisonville Resident Killed in Crash on LA 59 in St. Tammany Parish

Today at 12:15 AM, Louisiana State Police Troop L investigated a one-vehicle crash that resulted in the death of a Madisonville resident. The crash occurred on LA 59 at milepost 2.9 in St. Tammany Parish. A 2003 Dodge Neon, driven by Rebecca Thornton (W/F/Age 27) of Baton Rouge, LA, was traveling northbound on LA 59. While traveling north on LA 59, the driver of the Dodge Neon failed to negotiate a curve to the left and the vehicle traveled off the roadway to the right into a ditch. While in the ditch the Dodge Neon struck a private drive, became airborne and impacted a tree with its front end and roof. The Dodge Neon came to final rest on its driver’s side.

The driver of the Dodge Neon, Rebecca Thornton of Baton Rouge, LA, was transported to Lakeview Regional Medical Center by Fire District#4 to receive medical treatment for severe injuries. Upon the release of Rebecca Thornton from the hospital she will be booked into the St. Tammany Parish Jail on the following charges: Careless Operation (R.S.32:58), Driving While Intoxicated (R.S.14:98) second offense and Vehicular Homicide (R.S.14:32.1). The driver was not wearing her seat belt at the time of the crash. Alcohol is suspected to be a factor in this crash; blood was obtained and will be submitted to the Louisiana State Police Crime Lab for analysis. The Passenger, Christina Vanstock (W/F/Age 26) of Madisonville, LA, was not wearing her seat belt and was partially ejected during the crash. Christina Vanstock was pronounced dead at the scene by Angel Galloway of the St. Tammany Parish Coroner’s Office, due to injuries sustained in the crash.
