Edmonson, Superintendent TROOP L NEWS RELEASE For Immediate Release April 13th, 2010 Three Dead in Washington Parish Crash Bogalusa – Yesterday at 9:35 pm, Louisiana State Police Troop L investigated a two vehicle fatal crash on LA 10 at milepost #242.5 west of Bogalusa in Washington Parish. A 2005 Pontiac Grand Am, driven by Jacob E. Smith (W/M age 33) of Angie, LA, was traveling eastbound on LA 10. A 2006 Western Star 18 wheeler, driven by Leon Denard Jr. (B/M age 52) of McComb, MS, was traveling westbound on LA 10. For unknown reasons, the Pontiac traveled over the center line and into the westbound lane of travel causing a head-on collision with the 18 wheeler. Smith was pronounced dead at the scene by the Washington Parish Coroner’s Office due to injuries sustained in the crash. Smith was not wearing his seat belt and alcohol use is unknown at this time with toxicology results pending at the Louisiana State Police Crime Lab. Passenger one in the Pontiac, Tiffeny W. Olivares (W/F age 35) of Bogalusa, LA, was wearing her seat belt at the time of the crash and was transported to LSU Medical Center in Bogalusa with severe injuries. Olivares was later pronounced dead due to injuries sustained in the crash. Passenger two in the Pontiac, Timothy E. Odom (W/M age 29) of Bogalusa LA, was not wearing his seat belt and was pronounced dead at the scene by the Washington Parish Coroner’s Office. Denard was wearing his seatbelt and was transported to LSU Medical Center in Bogalusa for minor injuries. Alcohol use is not suspected with a blood test pending at the Louisiana State Police Crime Lab.
