Edmonson, Superintendent TROOP L- NEWS RELEASE For Immediate Release Date: November 8, 2008 Kentwood Resident Killed in Crash on LA 1054 in Tangipahoa Parish Today, November 8, 2008 at 3:00 AM, Louisiana State Police Troop L investigated a one-vehicle crash that resulted in the death of a Kentwood resident. The crash occurred on LA 1054 at milepost 27.5 in Tangipahoa Parish. A 1998 Chevrolet two door, driven by Jamelle L. Dyson (B/M/Age 25) of Kentwood, LA, was traveling northbound on LA 1054. The driver failed to negotiate a curve to the left, the vehicle veered to the right and its right side tires exited the roadway for approximately 10 feet. The driver then abruptly steered the vehicle to the left. The vehicle traveled onto the opposing lane of travel and then the driver overcorrected to the right. The Chevrolet began to rotate in a clockwise motion as it exited the roadway to the right. Once off the roadway, the vehicle proceeded down an embankment for approximately 60 feet and struck a pole with its driver’s side. After impact, the vehicle overturned and came to rest on its roof. The driver of the Chevrolet two door, Jamelle L. Dyson, of Kentwood, LA, was pronounced dead at the scene by the Tangipahoa Parish Coroner’s Office Assistant Tom Terrell, due to injuries sustained in the crash. The driver was not wearing his seat belt at the time of the crash. Alcohol/drugs use is suspected in the crash; blood was obtained and will be submitted for analysis.
