Edmonson, Superintendent TROOP L- NEWS RELEASE For Immediate Release Date: January 29, 2009 Driver Killed in Crash on LA 10 in Washington Parish Today, shortly before 1:00 PM this evening, Louisiana State Police Troop L investigated a two-vehicle fatal crash on LA 10, .6 miles west of LA 439 at milepost 234.5 in Washington Parish. A 2001 Chrysler four door, driven by Emelda Rowell (W/M/age 46) of Slidell, LA, was traveling westbound on LA 10. A 2006 Ford pickup, driven by Bradford D. Lott (W/M/age 33) of Franklinton, LA, was traveling eastbound on LA 10. The driver of the Chrysler began to pass two vehicles also traveling westbound. As Rowell passed the second vehicle, she attempted to steer quickly back onto the westbound lane. Upon doing so, Rowell lost control of her vehicle and it began to rotate clockwise in the eastbound lane. The Chrysler was impacted on the left side by the front of the Ford pickup. The crash happened within a legal passing zone. The driver of the Chrysler four door, Emelda Rowell, of Slidell, LA, was transported to LSU Medical Center (Bogalusa) by Northshore EMS, to receive medical treatment for severe injuries. Once at LSU Medical Center, Emelda Rowell was pronounced dead by Dr. Knight, due to injuries sustained in the crash. Alcohol/drug use is not suspected in the crash; blood was obtained and will be submitted for analysis. Emelda Rowell was wearing her seat belt at the time of the crash. The driver of the Ford pickup, Bradford D. Lott, of Franklinton, LA, was not injured in the crash. Lott submitted to a chemical test and it indicated a BAC (blood alcohol content) of .000g%. Bradford Lott was wearing his seat belt at the time of the crash.
