Edmonson, Superintendent TROOP L- NEWS RELEASE For Immediate Release Date: November 29, 2008 New Orleans Reserve Police Officer Killed in Crash on Interstate 10 in St. Tammany Parish Today, November 29, 2008 at 12:00 AM, Louisiana State Police Troop L investigated a one-vehicle crash that resulted in the death of a New Orleans Reserve Police Officer. The crash occurred on Interstate 10 at Oak Harbor, milepost 260.8 in St. Tammany Parish. A 1999 Ford Crown Victoria (New Orleans Police Department Unit), driven by Officer Curtis Jones (B/M/Age 74) of Slidell, LA, was traveling eastbound on Interstate 10, just before the Oak Harbor exit. For unknown reasons, the vehicle veered to the right and exited the roadway. Once off the roadway the Ford Crown Victoria traveled for approximately 149 feet and impacted a tree, before coming to final rest off the roadway. The driver of the Ford Crown Victoria, Curtis Jones, of Slidell, LA, was transported to Northshore Hospital, by Acadian ambulance to receive medical treatment for injuries sustained in the crash. While being treated at Northshore Hospital, Officer Curtis Jones was pronounced dead by Dr. Kergosien, due to injuries sustained in the crash. The officer was wearing his seat belt at the time of the crash. Alcohol/drugs use is not suspected in the crash; blood was obtained and will be submitted for analysis.
