Edmonson, Superintendent TROOP L- NEWS RELEASE For Immediate Release Date: December 15, 2008 Infant Killed in Crash on LA 25 in St. Tammany Parish On December 14, 2008 at 3:21 PM, Louisiana State Police Troop L investigated a two-vehicle crash that resulted in the death of an infant passenger. The crash occurred on LA 25 just south of LA 450 at milepost 12.6 in St. Tammany Parish. A 2005 Saturn Vue, driven by Christina M. Perez (W/F/Age 22) of Covington, LA, was traveling southbound on LA 25. A 2006 Chrysler 300, driven by Gary Williams (W/M/Age 63) of Clinton, LA, was headed northbound on LA 25. While proceeding through a curve to the left, the Saturn Vue ran off the right side of the roadway and onto the shoulder. The driver of the Saturn over-corrected to the left, and the Saturn began to rotate counterclockwise as it crossed the centerline of the roadway and entered the northbound lane of travel. The Chrysler 300 impacted the passenger’s side of the Saturn Vue, with its front end. During the impact, the infant passenger in the Saturn Vue was ejected from the vehicle. The driver of the Chrysler 300, Gary Williams, was transported to St. Tammany Hospital by Acadian Ambulance to receive medical treatment for moderate injuries. Alcohol usage by the driver is not suspected; however, blood was obtained and will be submitted for analysis. The driver was wearing his seat belt at the time of the crash. The driver of the Saturn Vue, Christina M. Perez was transported to Lakeview Regional Medical Center by Acadian Ambulance to receive medical treatment for severe injuries. Alcohol usage by the driver is not suspected; however, blood was obtained and will be submitted for analysis. The driver was not wearing her seat belt at the time of the crash. Christina M. Perez was charged with Careless Operation (R.S. 32:58). Any additional charges will be pending review by the St. Tammany Parish District Attorneys Office. The passenger, Malcoa Perez (W/M/Age 14 months) of Covington, LA, was transported to St. Tammany Parish Hospital by Acadian Ambulance to receive medical treatment for severe injuries. While at St. Tammany Hospital, Malcoa Perez was pronounced dead by Dr. Arrillaga, due to injuries sustained in the crash. There was a child restraint in the rear seat of the Saturn Vue, but the infant was not harnessed in the child restraint at the time of the crash.
