Two Year Old Child Killed in Crash on Interstate 55 in Tangipahoa Parish

Louisiana State Police Troop L investigated its second fatal crash of the year today just before noon on Interstate 55 in Tangipahoa Parish.

A 2000 Ford Explorer, driven by Kendrick O. Perry Sr. (B/M/Age 21) of Amite, LA, was traveling southbound on Interstate 55. The Ford Explorer experienced a tire failure on the left rear tire. After the tire failure, the driver lost control of his vehicle and traveled off the right side of the roadway. The Explorer traveled down a slope and began rotating clockwise. The rear right of the Ford Explorer then struck a tree. After impacting the tree the Explorer came to rest in a ditch.

The driver of the Ford Explorer, Kendrick O. Perry Sr., of Amite, LA, was transported to North Oaks Medical Center by Acadian Ambulance, to receive medical treatment for moderate injuries sustained in the crash. Alcohol/drugs use is not suspected in the crash; blood was obtained and will be submitted for analysis. The passenger, Kendrick O. Perry Jr. (B/M/Age 2) of Amite, LA, was pronounced dead at the scene by Investigator Stephen Wells of the Tangipahoa Parish Coroner’s Office, due to injuries sustained in the crash. The child was not properly restrained in a child restraint system, but was seat belted upon the rear left seat. No charges have been filed at this time, pending further investigation and consultation with the Tangipahoa Parish District Attorneys Office.
