Franklinton Resident Killed in Crash on LA 1070 in Washington Parish

A vehicle collision on LA 1070 east of LA 424 killed one man and injured a juvenile shortly before 10:00 a.m. this morning.

Today at 9:30 AM, Louisiana State Police Troop L investigated a two-vehicle crash that resulted in the death of a Franklinton resident. A 2005 Dodge pickup, driven by a juvenile (W/F/Age 16), was traveling westbound on LA 1070. The juvenile driver failed to negotiate a curve on the roadway, the vehicle veered to the right and its right side tires exited the roadway for approximately 141 feet. The driver then abruptly steered the vehicle to the left, causing the Dodge to rotate in a counterclockwise motion as it entered onto the eastbound lane of travel. While on the eastbound lane, the Dodge pickup impacted a Ford pickup with its front end. The 1986 Ford pickup was driven by Alton Gerald (W/M/Age 46), of Franklinton, LA. During the impact and rotation, the juvenile driver was ejected from the vehicle, due to not being restrained. Both vehicles came to rest off the roadway.

The driver of the Ford pickup, Alton Gerald, of Franklinton, LA, was pronounced dead at the scene by the Washington Parish Coroner Al Ortiz, due to injuries sustained in the crash. The driver was wearing his seat belt at the time of the crash. Alcohol/drugs use is not suspected in the crash; blood was obtained and will be submitted for analysis.

The juvenile driver of the Dodge pickup was transported to Riverside Medical Center by Advanced EMS to receive medical treatment for moderate injuries. The female juvenile was later transported to Ochsner Hospital for continued medical treatment. Alcohol/drugs use is not suspected in the crash; blood was obtained and will be submitted for analysis. The juvenile was charged with the following charges, Careless Operation and Negligent Homicide. The juvenile driver was not wearing her seat belt at the time of the crash.
