Hammond Resident Killed in Tangipahoa Parish Fatal Crash

Today at 12:34 AM, Louisiana State Police, Troop-L investigated a two-vehicle crash on LA 442 at the intersection of Stafford Road, at milepost 15.2 in Tangipahoa Parish. A 2005 Ford Taurus, driven by Donald R. Bailey Jr. (B/M/Age 22) of Hammond, LA, was traveling east on LA 442 near Stafford Road. A 2008 Ford pickup, driven by Brian Christian (W/M/Age 27) of Livingston, LA, was traveling west on LA 442. The Ford Taurus crossed onto and over the centerline, continuing eastbound in the westbound lane of travel. The Ford Taurus and the Ford pickup impacted head on in the westbound lane. After impact, both vehicles rotated counterclockwise. The Ford Taurus ignited into flames, which quickly consumed the vehicle. The Ford pickup came to rest facing southwest.

The driver of the Ford pickup, Brian Christian of Livingston, LA, was transported to North Oaks Medical Center by Acadian Ambulance to receive medical treatment for minor injuries. Alcohol use is suspected in the crash; blood was obtained and shall be submitted to the Louisiana State Police Crime Lab for analysis. The driver was wearing his seat belt at the time of the crash.

The driver of the Ford Taurus, Donald Bailey Jr. of Hammond, LA, was pronounced dead at the scene by Tangipahoa Parish Coroner Tom Terrell, due to injuries sustained in the crash. Alcohol usage is unknown for the driver of the Ford Taurus. Seat belt usage is also unknown due to the damage caused by the fire.
