TROOP L- NEWS RELEASE
For Immediate Release

Date: July 2, 2008

Fourth of July “C.A.R.E.” Holiday Enforcement

As the busy Fourth of July holiday approaches, Troop L wants to remind motorists to drive carefully so that everyone can arrive safely to their destinations. Millions of people across the country will be taking to the roads for vacation and other family activities. As the traffic on our roadways increases, so do the chances of being involved in a motor-vehicle crash.

Beginning July 3, through midnight July 6, Troopers will participate in operation C.A.R.E (Combined Accident Reduction Effort) a nationwide program that involves all State Police and State Patrol agencies in an effort to reduce impaired driving deaths and injuries. Louisiana State Police Troop-L Captain Olander Smith stated that with the use of federal funds there will be additional troopers in patrol and motor carrier safety on our roadways. These troopers will be targeting both passenger and commercial vehicles for aggressive driving, impaired drivers, seat belts and child restraint violations. This will be accomplished through the use of saturated patrols. The patrols will be working in predetermined locations some where in the Troop L area.

In the event you have a problem or see a hazardous condition, like an impaired driver while you are traveling on the roadways, you can dial *LSP (*577) on your cell phone and speak with the nearest State Police Troop in your area.

Remember:

·Always wear your seat belt and properly restrain children.
·Never drink and drive.
·Never get into a vehicle with a driver that has been drinking
·Always have a designated driver or call a cab.
·Be aware of the constructions zones throughout Louisiana. Please expect delays and allow additional time to reach your destination. Follow all reduced speed limits. Remember that traffic fines are doubled within construction zones.
