Edmonson, Superintendent TROOP A- NEWS RELEASE Hit and Run Suspect in Custody Technology and Communication Lead Arrest On June 6, 2008, Louisiana State Police – Troop A, Detectives and Crime Laboratory technicians began investigating a hit-and-run fatality. While walking along US Hwy 61 near the entrance to Riverbend Nuclear Plant, a vehicle struck Ms. Angela D. Guins (Female/Age 39), of St. Francisville, LA. The crash occurred on US Hwy 61 south of LA Hwy 965 in West Feliciana Parish. On Saturday, June 7, 2008, a Troop A trooper patrolling East Baton Rouge Parish, East Feliciana Parish and West Feliciana Parish observed a white 1995 Chevrolet pickup truck that appeared to be abandoned not far from the fatal crash scene. The trooper checked the license plate on his Mobile Data Terminal (MDT) to see if the vehicle was stolen. The pickup truck was not stolen and was on private property, so the trooper continued his patrols. A day later, the trooper learned of the hit-and-run fatality and that State Police was looking for a General Motors product with damage similar to the damage noticed on the abandoned vehicle. The location of the suspect vehicle was given to the investigating troopers and they began working to locate the owner. After locating the necessary information from the MDT, troopers turned to the 19th Judicial District to obtain a search warrant for the vehicle in question. Armed with a search warrant, troopers took custody of the vehicle and the State Police Crime Laboratory confirmed the debris at the scene was once a part of the vehicle in custody. Troopers arrested Mr. Darryl Whittington (Male/Age 44) of Zachary, LA, and booked him into the West Feliciana Parish Jail for Hit-and-Run and Vehicular Homicide.
