| Troop L - NEWS RELEASE April 29, 2008 At 5:35 PM, on April 28, 2008, Louisiana State Police Troop L investigated a two vehicle crash that resulted in the death of a Covington resident. The crash occurred on Interstate 12 eastbound at milepost 83.0 in St. Tammany Parish. A 2001 Mercury Mountaineer, driven by Hershel L. Gould (W/M/Age 61) of Covington, LA, was traveling westbound on Interstate 12 in the right lane. For an unknown reason, the Mercury Mountaineer entered onto the right shoulder, turned left crossing both lanes of Interstate 12 westbound and entered onto the grass median. The Mountaineer continued across the grassy median and entered onto Interstate 12 eastbound, directly in the path of a 2007 Ford F-150. The Ford F-150 was driven by Deanna M. Pendleton (W/F/Age 27) of Pearl River, LA. The Ford F-150 impacted the Mercury Mountaineer in the right side with its front end. After impact the Mercury Mountaineer traveled onto the right shoulder and came to final rest facing south. The Ford F-150 rotated clockwise, traveled onto the right shoulder and came to final rest facing west. The driver of the Ford F-150, Deanna M. Pendleton of Pearl River, LA, was transported to Northshore Hospital by Acadian Ambulance to receive medical treatment for minor injuries. Alcohol not suspected to be a factor in the crash; blood was obtained and will be submitted to the Louisiana State Police Crime Lab for analysis. The driver was wearing her seat belt at the time of the crash. The driver of the Mercury Mountaineer, Hershel L. Gould of Covington, LA, was transported to Slidell Memorial Hospital by Acadian Ambulance to receive medical treatment for moderate injuries. Alcohol not suspected to be a factor in the crash; blood was obtained and will be submitted to the Louisiana State Police Crime Lab for analysis. Charges are pending for Hershel L. Gould, due to the investigation indicating that the actions of Hershel Gould may have been caused by a medical condition. The passenger, Janice S. Gould (W/F/Age 62) of Covington, LA, was pronounced dead at the scene by Assistant Coroner Angel Galloway of the St. Tammany Parish Coroner’s Office, due to injuries sustained in the crash. The driver was wearing his seat belt at the time of the crash, but the passenger was not restrained at the time of the crash. Contact Information: Tfc.
