| NEWS RELEASE Troop L Fatality Crash on LA 438 in Washington Parish February 2, 2008 At 8:20 PM, on February 1, 2008, Louisiana State Police Troop L investigated a one vehicle crash that resulted in the death of the driver. The crash occurred on LA 438 eastbound at milepost 24.2 in Washington Parish. A 2004 Honda SUV, driven by Donald W. Scruggs (W/M/Age 60) of Statesville, NC, was traveling eastbound on La 438. The driver failed to negotiate a curve to the right and traveled off the roadway with its left side tires. The driver attempted to correct back to the right, but the Honda began to rotate clockwise. The Honda SUV continued for approximately 50 feet before leaving the roadway to the left. The vehicle traveled approximately 175 feet and impacted a tree with the driver’s door. After impact the Honda continued for another 36 feet before coming to final rest off the roadway. The driver of the 2004 Honda SUV, Donald W. Scruggs was pronounced dead at the scene by Mike Varnado of the Washington Parish Coroner’s Office, due to injuries sustained in the crash. The driver of the vehicle was wearing his seat belt at the time of the crash. Alcohol is not suspected in the crash, however; blood was obtained and will be submitted to the Louisiana State Police Crime Lab for analysis. Contact Information: Tfc.
