Edmonson, Superintendent TROOP A- NEWS RELEASE Fifty-One Citations Recorded at Insurance Checkpoint On Thursday, June 12, 2008, Louisiana State Police – Troop A with assistance from the East Baton Rouge Parish Sheriff’s Office, conducted an insurance checkpoint. The checkpoint took place on LA Hwy 948 east of US Hwy 61 in East Baton Rouge Parish. Between 7:45 AM and 11:00 AM, troopers and deputies screened 708 vehicles and issued fifty-one citations. 12 drivers received a citation for not having proof of insurance, 30 drivers received a citation for an expired/no motor vehicle inspection sticker, 3 drivers received a citation for license violation, 5 drivers received a citation for having illegal window tint and 1 driver received a citation for a vehicle license violation. Louisiana Revised Statute 32:863.1, Evidence of compulsory motor vehicle liability security contained in vehicle, requires that every vehicle registered in Louisiana* that is driven on public roads, streets, or highways shall have proof of insurance in the vehicle at all times. Drivers that do not comply with this statute face fines through the Office of Motor Vehicles and could have their vehicle towed. *see the LRS 32:863.1 for exclusions.
