NEWS RELEASE
Troop L
Sobriety Checkpoint Scheduled

March 19, 2008

Louisiana State Police Troop L, announced that a DWI Checkpoint will take place on Friday, March 21, 2008 and will be conducted in St. Tammany Parish. The DWI Checkpoint will begin at approximately 10:00 P.M. and will be manned by Louisiana State Police Troop L.

Every year on the highways across the state of Louisiana numerous people are killed or seriously injured as a result of an impaired driver. Sobriety checkpoints are an effective enforcement tool because they serve as a deterrent to impaired and drunken driving. The task of stopping these impaired drivers is a joint effort of law enforcement agencies and the public. We need the public to assist by not allowing someone to leave their house as an impaired driver and reporting possible impaired drivers to their local police stations. The State Police number to call is *LSP or (*577) on your cell phone.

Remember, the only designated driver is the person who has had
NO ALCOHOL.
