Edmonson, Superintendent TROOP L- NEWS RELEASE For Immediate Release Date: June 26, 2008 St. Helena Parish Sheriff’s Office Deputy Arrested Today, June 26, 2008, South District Detectives with the Louisiana State Police arrested Jessie Hughes (B/M/Age 39) of Pine Grove, LA. Jessie Hughes, a deputy with the St. Helena Parish Sheriff’s Office assigned to the communication division was arrested tonight on charges of Molestation of a Juvenile (R.S.14:81.2) and Aggravated Rape (R.S.14:42). The arrest was the result of a complaint received by the St. Helena Parish Sheriff’s Office of an alleged rape of a juvenile. Sheriff Nat Williams of the St. Helena Sheriff’s Department requested the Louisiana State Police take over the investigation and look into the allegations. Sheriff Williams immediately placed Jessie Hughes on administrative leave without pay. Concluding the Louisiana State Police investigation, Jessie Hughes was placed under arrest and booked into the St. Helena Parish Jail. He was then transported and booked into the Tangipahoa Parish Jail. Following the arrest of Hughes by the Louisiana State Police Detectives, Sheriff Nat Williams terminated Hughes’ employment with the St. Helena Sheriff’s Department.
