| NEWS RELEASE - Troop L For Immediate Release May 10, 2008 At 1:22 PM, on May 10, 2008, Louisiana State Police Troop L investigated a two vehicle crash that resulted in the death of a Ponchatoula resident. The crash occurred on LA 22 at the intersection of Thibodeaux Road, milepost 55.0 in Tangipahoa Parish. A 2000 Dodge van, driven by Lemelda Lavigne (W/F/Age 80) of Ponchatoula, LA, was stopped at a stop sign at the intersection of Thibodeaux Road and LA 22. A 2008 Toyota pick up, driven by Robert Gautreau (W/M/Age 23) of Gonzales, LA, was traveling westbound on LA 22, towing a boat. The Dodge van proceeded to make a left turn onto LA 22. As the Dodge van entered onto the westbound lane of LA 22, it was impacted on its left side by the Toyota pick up. After impact, the Dodge van came to final rest facing north in the eastbound lane of LA 22. The Toyota pick up traveled off the roadway and impacted a barricade, which was protecting a local business. The driver of the Dodge van, Lemelda Lavigne of Ponchatoula, LA, was transported to North Oaks Medical Center by Acadian Ambulance to receive medical treatment for severe injuries. Once at North Oaks Medical Center, Lemelda Lavigne was pronounced dead by Dr. Harlan due to injuries sustained in the crash. Alcohol is not suspected; however, blood was obtained and will be sent to the Louisiana State Police Crime Lab for analysis. The driver was wearing her seat belt at the time of the crash. The driver of the Toyota pick up, Robert Gautreau of Gonzales, LA, was not injured in the crash. Alcohol is not a factor and the driver was wearing his seat belt at the time of the crash.
