Edmonson, Superintendent TROOP L- NEWS RELEASE For Immediate Release Date: June 7, 2008 Kentwood Resident Killed in Tangipahoa Parish Fatal Crash On Friday, June 6, 2008 at 11:23 PM, Louisiana State Police, Troop L investigated a one vehicle fatal crash on LA 38 at milepost 22.0. The crash involved a 2005 GMC Yukon driven by Michael L. Nichols (B/M/Age 42) of Kentwood, LA. The GMC Yukon was traveling westbound on LA 38, when for an unknown reason the GMC traveled off the roadway to the right. Once off the roadway, the Yukon struck a DOTD sign post and impacted a concrete culvert. After impacting the concrete culvert, the Yukon began to flip several times ejecting all occupants in the vehicle. The driver of the GMC Yukon, Michael L. Nichols of Kentwood, LA, was pronounced dead at the scene by Tom Terrell of the Tangipahoa Parish Coroner’s Office, due to injuries sustained in the crash. Alcohol is unknown at this time; however, blood was obtained and will be submitted to the Louisiana State Police Crime Lab for analysis. Passenger one, Mary Self (B/F/Age 44) of Kentwood, LA, was transported to the hospital by Acadian Ambulance to receive medical treatment for severe injuries. The following occupants were seated in the rear passenger compartment of the GMC Yukon prior to the crash. Passenger two, Rashondria Self (B/F/Age 19) of Kentwood, LA, was transported to the hospital by Acadian Ambulance to receive medical treatment for severe injuries. Passenger Three, a juvenile (B/F/Age 13) was transported to the hospital by Acadian Ambulance to receive medical treatment for minor injuries. Passenger four, a juvenile (B/F/Age 4) was transported to the hospital by Acadian Ambulance to receive medical treatment for moderate injuries. Passenger five, a juvenile (B/F/Age 4) was transported to the hospital by Acadian Ambulance to receive medical treatment for severe injuries. Passenger six, a juvenile (B/M/Age 15) was transported to the hospital by Acadian Ambulance to receive medical treatment for minor injuries. All passengers in the GMC Yukon were transported to either North Oaks Medical Center in Hammond, LA or Southwest Memorial Hospital in McComb, MS. The occupants in the vehicle were not wearing seatbelts or child restraints.
