For Immediate Release

Date: June 6, 2008
Sobriety Checkpoint Scheduled for Washington Parish Tonight

Louisiana State Police Troop L announced that a DWI Checkpoint will be held tonight, June 6, 2008. The DWI Checkpoint will be conducted on LA 21, two tenths north of LA 436 at milepost 39.5 in Washington Parish. The DWI Checkpoint will begin at approximately 10 P.M. and will be manned by Louisiana State Police Troop L, Louisiana Wildlife and Fisheries and the Washington Parish Sheriff’s Office.

Every year on the highways across the state of Louisiana, numerous people are killed or seriously injured because of an impaired driver. Sobriety checkpoints are an effective enforcement tool because they serve as a deterrent to impaired and drunken driving. The task of stopping these impaired drivers is a joint effort of law enforcement agencies and the public. We need the public to assist by not allowing someone to leave their house as an impaired driver and reporting possible impaired drivers to their local police stations. The State Police number to call is *LSP or (*577) on your cell phone.

Alcohol or Drugs, Impairment is Impairment! Drive Impaired Get Arrested"
&
Remember, the only designated driver is the person who has had NO ALCOHOL.
