Edmonson, Superintendent TROOP L- NEWS RELEASE For Immediate Release October 6, 2009 Head-On Collision on the LA 10 in Washington Parish Claims the Lives of both Drivers Troop L - Yesterday, at 8:10 PM, Louisiana State Police Troop L investigated a two-vehicle fatal crash on LA 10, one mile west of LA 62 in Washington Parish. A 1999 Nissan Atlima, driven by Kerwin R. Vogt (W/M/age 53) of Franklinton, LA, was traveling eastbound on LA 10. A 2002 Dodge Neon, driven by Michael Miley (W/M/age 42) of Franklinton, LA, was traveling westbound on LA 10. As the two vehicles approached one another, the Nissan Altima crossed over the centerline, traveled onto the westbound lane and struck the Dodge Neon head-on. After impact, both vehicles began to rotate counter clockwise. The Nissan Altima continued to rotate and traveled approximately 127 feet before coming to rest on the eastbound shoulder facing west. The Dodge Neon traveled approximately 28 feet before coming to rest off the westbound shoulder facing east. The driver of the Dodge Neon, Michael Miley of Franklinton, LA, was pronounced dead at the scene by Assistant Coroner Al Ortiz of the Washington Parish Coroner’s Office, due to injuries sustained in the crash. Impairment is not suspected for Miley; blood was obtained and will be submitted to the Louisiana State Police Crime Lab for analysis. Miley was wearing his seat belt at the time of the crash. The driver of the Nissan Altima, Kerwin R. Vogt of Franklinton, LA, was pronounced dead at the scene by Assistant Coroner Al Ortiz of the Washington Parish Coroner’s Office, due to injuries sustained in the crash.
