Edmonson, Superintendent TROOP L- NEWS RELEASE For Immediate Release December 2nd, 2009 Motorcycle Driver killed in Covington Crash Covington – Today at 2:50 pm, Louisiana State Police Troop L investigated a two vehicle fatal crash on LA 1082 at the intersection with Pat O’Brien Road in St. Tammany Parish. A 2006 Suzuki Motorcycle, driven by Timothy Sharp II (W/M age 21) of Franklinton, LA, was traveling northbound on LA 1082. A 2005 Ford Crown Victoria, driven by Alan Pelegrin (W/M age 53) of Covington, LA, was making a left turn onto Pat O’Brien Road from the northbound lane of LA 1082. As Sharp approached the intersection of LA 1082 and Pat O’Brien, he crossed the centerline and began traveling northbound in the southbound lane attempting to pass a line of vehicles. The Suzuki motorcycle then impacted the left side of the Ford Crown Victoria as the Ford turned left across the southbound lane. Upon impact, Sharp was ejected from the motorcycle and came to rest off road in the northwest corner of the intersection. The driver of the Suzuki Motorcycle was pronounced dead at the scene by the St. Tammany Parish Coroner’s Office as a result of his injuries. Sharp was wearing a helmet at the time of the crash and alcohol use is not suspected. A blood sample was taken from Sharp with a toxicology analysis pending by the Coroner’s Office. The driver of the Ford Crown Victoria received only minor injuries in the crash and submitted a breath sample registering a .000g% BAC. Pelegrin was wearing a seatbelt at the time of the crash.
