Edmonson, Superintendent TROOP L- NEWS RELEASE For Immediate Release October 15, 2009 Aggressive Driver killed in Crash on I-12 Covington - Today at 09:40 am, Louisiana State Police Troop L investigated a one vehicle fatal crash on Interstate 12 eastbound at milepost #65 in St. Tammany Parish. A 1994 Dodge pickup truck was traveling eastbound on Interstate 12 when it attempted to pass a vehicle on the inside left shoulder of the roadway. As the Dodge pickup attempted to reenter the left eastbound lane, the driver lost control causing the vehicle to rotate in a clockwise manner while traveling in a southeasterly direction. The dodge pickup continued to rotate as it crossed both eastbound lanes of I-12 and ran off road on the south side of the roadway where it impacted a tree with its driver side. The pickup came to rest facing a westerly direction off road on the south side of Interstate 12. The driver of the Dodge pickup was transported to Slidell Memorial Hospital by Fire District 4 EMS in serious condition. He later succumbed to his injuries and was pronounced dead at 02:12 pm by Dr. Stafford at Slidell Memorial Hospital. Alcohol use is not suspected; however, blood was drawn and will be submitted for analysis. The driver of the Dodge pickup was not wearing a seatbelt at the time of the crash.
