Edmonson, Superintendent TROOP A- NEWS RELEASE The Cost of Diesel Just Got Higher At 3:00 PM, today, Louisiana State Police – Detectives, with assistance from the Ascension and East Baton Rouge Parish Sheriff’s Departments, two men were arrested for stealing more than eight thousand gallons of diesel fuel. The thefts occurred between the months of, January 2008 - June 2008 in Ascension, East Baton Rouge, St. Charles and Jefferson Parishes. On May 15, 2008, Louisiana State Police – Detectives received a complaint from SMF Energy Corporation (SMF), alleging that two employees were stealing diesel fuel. During SMF’s internal investigation, they learned that the two employees were loading and off-loading more fuel than necessary, at non-designated locations. The two men traveled to locations throughout the four parishes and indicated that the fuel was sold or used on their log sheets. The drivers delivered 8,171.6 gallons of diesel fuel at a total cost of $31,029.55 in seventy instances. 500-gallon containers, a semi-tractor or a dump truck was located at the unauthorized locations. James R. Russell (Male/Age 31) of Zachary, LA and William Cain, III (Male/Age 42) of Baton Rouge, LA, are being booked into the Ascension and East Baton Rouge Parish Detention Centers for Theft and Criminal Conspiracy.
