Haz-mat Emergency Drill scheduled for Hammond

Hammond – On November 12th, 2009, twenty-eight different local, state, and federal agencies will be participating in a mock hazardous material emergency drill in the Hammond Area.

A haz-mat scene between an 18 wheeler and a Canadian National Railway train will be simulated on LA 1064 at its intersection with the railroad tracks east of N. Oak Street. In addition to the haz-mat response at the scene, teams will be conducting drills at North Oaks Hospital, Lallie Kemp Regional Medical Center, Southeastern Louisiana University, and Holy Ghost Elementary School.

Through this mock drill, first responders will evaluate the Tangipahoa Parish Office of Emergency Preparedness Crisis Plan and test communication capabilities between all of the participating agencies. By conducting this emergency drill in a controlled public setting, first responders will be better trained and prepared for a quick response to an actual emergency.

Any questions or concerns should be directed to
CN Railroad Special Agent Morris Evans Jr at 504-734-6911
