Edmonson, Superintendent TROOP L- NEWS RELEASE For Immediate Release January 10, 2010 Driver Impairment suspected in Fatal Kentwood Crash Kentwood – Yesterday at 11:50 pm, Louisiana State Police Troop L investigated a two vehicle fatal crash on U.S. 51 milepost #60.8 in Tangipahoa Parish. A 1998 Ford pickup truck, driven by Jeffrey Castleberry (W/M age 36) of Kentwood, LA, was traveling southbound on U.S. 51. A 1995 Eagle car, driven by Walter Walker (B/M age 29) of Kentwood, LA, was traveling north on U.S. 51. As the two vehicles approached each other, the Ford pickup crossed the centerline on U.S. 51 impacting the Eagle in a head-on collision. The driver of the Ford pickup was transported to Hood Memorial Hospital with moderate injuries. Castleberry was not wearing his seatbelt at the time of the crash and alcohol use is suspected. A blood sample was taken from Castleberry with analysis pending by the Louisiana State Police Crime Lab. Castleberry was charged with DWI 1st offense, Negligent Homicide, and Driving Left of Center. He was booked at the Tangipahoa Parish Jail in Amite. The driver of the Eagle car was pronounced dead at the scene by the Tangipahoa Parish Coroner’s Office. Walker was not wearing a seatbelt at the time of the crash and alcohol use is also suspected. A blood sample was taken from Walker with analysis pending by the Louisiana State Police Crime Lab.
