Edmonson, Superintendent TROOP L- NEWS RELEASE For Immediate Release February 10th, 2010 Doctor Shopping Investigation leads to arrest in Covington Covington- Prescription fraud has become a widespread criminal activity causing large quantities of potentially dangerous narcotics to be released into the community. LA Revised Statute 40:971B(1)(i), often referred to as “Doctor Shopping”, makes it illegal for individuals to obtain or seek to obtain any controlled dangerous substance or a prescription for a controlled dangerous substance from multiple health care practitioners without disclosing the existing prescription. Based on information provided by several medical facilities, Louisiana State Police Region I Narcotic Detectives began an investigation into a Covington resident for possible doctor shopping. Further investigation revealed that the Covington resident, identified as Rebecca Manning (W/F age 43), visited numerous medical offices seeking the same prescription from multiple physicians. On February 8th, 2010, detectives arrested Manning at her residence in Covington and charged her with 72 counts of “Doctor Shopping”. She was booked at the St. Tammany Parish Jail.
