A 1999 Chevrolet pickup truck, driven by Jerry J. Morgan Jr. (W/M, age 31) of Independence, LA, was traveling westbound on Interstate 12. Upon approaching the entrance ramp to the westbound weigh scales, Morgan exited the interstate mistaking the entrance for a normal interstate off ramp. Upon entering the building, the Chevrolet truck impacted a desk occupied by a Weight Enforcement Officer throwing him back into a wall. The Weight Enforcement Officer received only minor injuries from the crash and was treated at the scene by medical personnel. Morgan was not injured and drug use is suspected to be a factor in the crash. He submitted to the breath test and registered .000g% BAC, however, refused to provide a urine sample. Morgan was charged with open container, careless operation, aggravated criminal damage to property, and 1st offense DWI. He was booked at the Tangipahoa Parish Jail in Amite.
