| LOUISIANA STATE POLICE COURTESY LOYALTY SERVICE Colonel Michael D. Edmonson, Superintendent TROOP L- NEWS RELEASE For Immediate Release Date: March 19, 2009 Sobriety Checkpoints Scheduled for St. Tammany and St. Helena Parish Louisiana State Police Troop L announced that two DWI Checkpoints will take place on Friday, March 20, 2009 and will be conducted in St. Tammany and St. Helena Parish. The second will be manned by Louisiana State Police, Louisiana Department of Wildlife and Fisheries and the St. Helena Sheriff’s Office. Every year on the highways across the state of Louisiana, numerous people are killed or seriously injured because of an impaired driver. Sobriety checkpoints are an effective enforcement tool because they serve as a deterrent to impaired and drunken driving. The task of stopping these impaired drivers is a joint effort of law enforcement agencies and the public. We need the public to assist by not allowing someone to leave their house as an impaired driver and reporting possible impaired drivers to their local police stations. The State Police number to call is *LSP or (*577) on your cell phone. “Alcohol or Drugs, Impairment is Impairment! Drive Impaired Get Arrested" & Remember, the only designated driver is the person who has had NO ALCOHOL.
