Hit-and-Run Suspect Turns Himself In

At 11:49 PM, on June 20, 2008, Louisiana State Police – Troop A began investigating a hit-and-run crash involving a motorcyclist. The crash occurred on LA Hwy 22 east of US Hwy 61 in Ascension Parish.

A Harley-Davidson motorcycle traveled west on LA Hwy 22 and stopped to make left turn into a private drive. A Ford Mustang approaching from the rear failed to stop and crashed into the Harley-Davidson. After impact, the driver of the Harley-Davidson was partially ejected and the driver of the Ford fled from the scene, traveling east on LA Hwy 22.

On Sunday, June 22, 2008, the driver of the Ford, Justin Viger (Male/Age 27) French Settlement, LA, came to State Police – Troop A and turned himself in. Mr. Viger was issued an arrest summons for Hit-and-Run and Careless Operation.

The driver of the Harley-Davidson, Mavis Courville (Male/Age 45) of Prairieville, LA, sustained minor injuries and refused medical transportation at the scene. Both drivers were wearing the appropriate safety device and alcohol is not suspected to be a factor in this crash.
